Description

The Delaware and Lehigh National Heritage Corridor consists of five Pennsylvania counties which are filled with heritage and outdoor activities.

The Corridor has many activities suitable for schoolchildren as well as adults interested in history, from outdoor activities such as hiking and fishing to historical sites such as canals and bridges. The website offers visitor information, basic historical information, a picture gallery that provides a virtual tour of the corridor, and online interactive activities for schoolchildren.

Seems more an umbrella site than oriented to specific historic sites.

Saratoga Springs Preservation Foundation [NY]

Description

The Saratoga Springs Preservation Foundation works throughout Saratoga Springs, New York, in order to preserve historic structures and educated local citizens on the history of the town. The foundation offers plaques and commendations for the preservation of historic structures, and works with local citizens to aid in preservation.

The foundation offers walking tours, a historic district guide with information about the historic structures in the district. The website offers historical information, visitor information, online newsletters, and professional resources.

Pennsylvania Heritage Society [PA]

Description

"Founded in 1983, the Pennsylvania Heritage Society is the co-publisher of the award-winning quarterly magazine, Pennsylvania Heritage®, and serves a critical role as the non-profit organization supporting the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission (PHMC), the state's official history agency. With the support of over 4,000 members from every corner of the state and beyond, the Heritage Society works with the PHMC on a variety of projects to preserve and interpret Pennsylvania's history, art, and culture."

Pierce Mill [DC]

Description

Peirce Mill was built in the 1820s, and operated commercially until 1897. The U.S. Government acquired the mill as part of Rock Creek Park in 1892.

Currently closed for restoration and repairs.

Frackville Area Historical Society [PA]

Hudson River Heritage [NY]

Description

Hudson River Heritage (HRH) is a nonprofit membership organization committed to preserving the unique character of the Mid-Hudson Valley's historic architecture, rural landscapes and scenic viewsheds through advocacy and education. HRH acts as steward for the Hudson River National Historic Landmark District, a 32-square-mile area stretching from Staatsburg, in Dutchess County to Clermont, in Columbia County.
