The Historic Preservation Training Center (HPTC) is dedicated to the safe preservation and maintenance of national parks or partner facilities by demonstrating outstanding leadership, delivering quality preservation services, and developing educational courses that fulfill the competency requirements of Service employees in the career fields of Historic Preservation Skills, Risk Management, Maintenance, and Planning, Design, and Construction.

Pagoda-Skyline [PA]

Description

Pagoda-Skyline seeks to preserve the Pagoda, Fire Tower, and Skyline Drive area of Reading, PA for visitor education. The 1908 Pagoda was built as a luxury hotel, replicating the appearance of Japanese Shogun Dynasty architecture, with the intention of hiding damage done to the land while quarrying stone. The exterior displayed community messages through flashes of light patterned after Morse Code. Highlights include a 1739 bell from a Buddhist temple in Japan.

Uncertain if the Pagoda currently offers anything more than a gift shop and cafe.

Haldeman Mansion Preservation Society [PA]

Description

The mission of the Haldeman Mansion Preservation Society is to restore and preserve the Haldeman Mansion to the condition it would have appeared in 1812 when world renowned scientist and linguist Samuel Steman Haldeman was born here. The Haldeman Mansion, birthplace of Professor Samuel Stehman Haldeman was completed in 1812 by his grandparents, John and Maria Brenneman Haldeman.

The site offers biographical information about Samuel Haldeman, a calendar of events, press releases, and other general information about the society.

The mansion is currently under development.

Warren Homestead [NY]

Description

The Warren Homestead is the 19th century house of pioneer winemaker Joseph Warren. Warren's vineyard predated the established start of winemaking in the Finger Lakes region of New York by almost 30 years. Today, the home and grounds are open to the public as a historic house museum.

The homestead offers guided tours and special events. The website offers visitor information and a brief history of the home.

Amityville Historical Society and Lauder Museum [NY]

Description

The mission of the Society is to operate and maintain the Lauder Museum and to encourage and promote the discovery, collection, preservation, and display of historical objects. In addition, the Society disseminates and publishes historical facts and knowledge about the activities, sites, memorabilia, and materials of the South Shore of Long Island in and around Amityville.

The museum offers exhibits, tours, and research library access.
