The Wayne County Historical Society seeks to heighten awareness of and to preserve the history of Wayne County, New York. The society operates the Museum of Wayne County History, which currently has over 8,000 items in its collection, spanning a wide range of time.

The society offers a quarterly newsletter specifically written for educators, a historic map club, a series of pen-pal letters written by a fictional child from the past, educational kits for rental, in-classroom presentations by costumed docents, and guided tours.

The Yonkers Historical Society maintains the historic Sherwood House (built circa 1740), sponsors a wide variety of special events, advocates for the preservation of historic landmarks and neighborhoods, and fosters a greater appreciation of the city’s heritage through its educational programs. Its library boasts photographs, books, maps, and documents that cover almost every aspect of our community’s history over the last four centuries. The Sherwood House, a tenant farmhouse, is one of the few existing pre-Revolutionary homesteads in New York state; and a well-preserved example of an Anglo-Dutch home. It contains period furnishings and artifacts.

The society offers a library, a quarterly journal (select articles available online), and a collection of early 20th–century postcards of Yonkers (available online). Tours guided by an interpreter in period dress are available at the Sherwood House.

The Shandaken Historical Museum is housed in a 1925 structure, and contains information and artifacts relevant to local history and genealogy.

Brookside Museum, operated by the Saratoga County Historical Society, presents collections and programs on the history of Saratoga County. The museum conducts research in the field of Saratoga County history and publishes results in the form of exhibits, programs, print publications, and an interactive website. Brookside also fosters research through access to its library and collections and by providing educational programming at the museum, in the community, and online.

Brookside Museum offers demonstrations, hands-on educational programs, pre-visit educational materials, traveling trunks, virtual and on-site exhibits, and a research library.

The International Boxing Hall of Fame presents the history of boxing through memorabilia, including gloves and paraphernalia of famous players; the Madison Square Garden Ring; inductee biographies; and a research library.

The Smithfield Community Association manages the Gerrit Smith Estate National Historic Landmark, lifelong residence of abolitionist and social reformer Gerrit Smith (1797–1874), and preserves this history of Petersboro, New York, a major Underground Railroad destination and site of the inaugural meeting of the NYS Anti-Slavery Society in 1835.

At the turn-of-the-century, George C. Boldt (1851–1916), millionaire proprietor of the world famous Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York City, set out to build a full size Rhineland castle in Alexandria Bay, on picturesque Heart Island. The grandiose structure was to be a display of his love for his wife, Louise. On the death of his wife in 1904, construction was ceased. The site tells of the Boldts' lifestyle and the history of the 1000 Islands region. There are a total of six structures: the Castle; the Power House, which was inspired by Medieval architecture and contains a period steam engine; the Alster Tower, used for entertainment purposes; the Hennery, containing a water tank and pigeon house; the Arch, modeled after Roman monuments, and a stone Gazebo.

Boldt Castle offers a 15 minute film, exhibits, and self-guided tours.

The Manlius Historical Society aims to preserve and heighten awareness of the history of the town of Manlius, New York. To this end, the society maintains a museum. The Manlius Historical Museum has several permanent displays, including a replica schoolroom and general store. Attached to the museum is an authentic working Blacksmith Shop and an authentic (non-working) Outhouse. The Cheney House Research Center and Library contains archives and genealogy files.

The Greater Astoria Historical Society serves to preserve the history of Long Island City.

The society offers walking tours, field trip hosting, slide presentations, and guest lectures.

The Lower East Side Tenement Museum is located in a historic tenement that was home to roughly 7,000 people between 1863 and 1935. Today, the building stands as a historic museum, where visitors can tour the cramped living space and learn about the lives of past residents of the building.

The museum offers presentations, special events such as plays, art exhibits, and readings that represent the immigrant experience, and guided tours. The website offers a history of the site, along with lesson plans for students, visitor information, and a virtual tour of the museum.
