The Douglas County Museum of Natural & Cultural History chronicles human history in Douglas County, from the Umpqua tribe which first settled the area 10,000 years ago until the present day, and also pays special attention to the history of mining, fishing, farming, and logging, all of which have been an integral part of the Douglas County economy.

The Village Green Heritage Center presents the history of the Palm Springs area, California. The center is located in two historic structures. The 1884 McCallum Adobe, built for the area's first permanent settler of European descent, houses vernacular items, textiles, Native American artifacts, artworks, and photographs. The 1893 Little House, built of used railroad ties, is set to period.

The Andover Historical Society seeks to preserve and share the history of Andover, Massachusetts, founded 1646. To this end, the society operates the 1819 Amos Blanchard House and Barn Museum which illustrates the life of an early 19th-century (1820-1850), middle-class family. The barn contains a variety of vernacular tools. According to the society site, tour topics include "politics, religion, women's roles, economics, banking, youth, education, household management, and agriculture." Extensive archival materials are available for research at the Caroline M. Underhill Research Center.

The Old Governer's Mansion in Georgia is one of the nation's first examples of High Greek Revival architecture in the nation. The mansion was completed in 1839, and served as the mansion of the governor of Georgia until the Civil War. The building was placed on the national register of historic places in 1973, and currently stands as a historic house museum.

On April 3, 1860, a lone rider left on horseback from the gates of one of the nation's now-historic landmarks, the Pikes Peak Stables in St. Joseph, MO. Carrying saddlebags filled with the nation's hopes and dreams, the riders traveled 2,000 miles west to Sacramento, CA. These brave young souls raced against nature's cruel elements and rugged terrain in an attempt to unite a country separated by distance. Today, the stables continue to stand as a tribute to the legend and legacy of the Pony Express and its enduring era. The Museum invites visitors to come and experience the many exciting, educational, state-of-the-art exhibits conveying the need, creation, operation, and termination of the Pony Express.

The Museum is housed in the 1892 "Palace of the Plains," designed by architects Willis Proudfoot and George Bird as Wichita's City Building. The museum collection has evolved form a core of early memorabilia to nearly 70,000 artifacts relating to Wichita and Sedgwick County from 1865 to the present. From photographs to fashions, business records to furniture, these items help tell the story of the people and events that have shaped the county's history.

Territorial Statehouse in Fillmore is Utah's oldest existing governmental building. In anticipation of Utah's statehood, early pioneer Brigham Young directed construction of the building as the state's capitol. Only the south wing was ever completed. The existing portion was finished in time for the December 1855 meeting of the Territorial Legislature, which was the only full session held in the old statehouse. In December 1858, the seat of government was returned to Salt Lake City. Today, the Statehouse reveals Utah pioneer culture and history, through artifacts and paintings. Two restored pioneer cabins and an 1867 stone schoolhouse are also located on the grounds.
