"The Plainsboro Historical Society is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving and promoting the history of Plainsboro Township. The society operates the Plainsboro Museum, which is located in the historic Wicoff House, maintains the Bethel Cemetery, and puts on a variety of educational programs. The museum focuses local history, ranging from high school and youth sports to local businesses.

"The Etowah Valley Historical Society, Inc. was founded in 1972 by concerned owners of historical properties in Bartow County. From a membership of 24, primarily interested in preserving the Etowah River Valley region of this county, the society has evolved into an organization of over 600 people dedicated to the promotion of historic education and preservation throughout Bartow County." Today, the society is focused on a variety of projects, from operating the Altoona Pass battlefield to helping interested citizens research their genealogy.

Eustis Historical Museum & Preservation Society [FL]

Description

The Eustis Historical Society is dedicated towards preserving and showcasing Eustis area history through the Eustis Historical Museum. The museum is located in the Clifford House, which was built in 1911, and remains much the same today as it was when it was first built. Exhibits in the museum mainly focus on the early history of Eustis, Florida, which was dominated by the citrus industry. In addition, visitors can view photographs of early residents of Eustis.

Ratcliffe-Allison House & Kitty Pozer Garden [VA]

Description

Built in 1812, the Ratcliffe-Allison House is one of the oldest residences in the historic city of Fairfax, Virginia. The house has been converted to a historic house museum, and features objects and exhibits that illustrate the daily activities of the homes 12 owners. This enables the home to show visitors how the City of Fairfax changed throughout the 19th and 20th centuries. The home was donated to the City of Fairfax by its owners in 1973.

Enfield Historical Society Inc [CT]

Description

The Enfield Historical Society is dedicated towards discovering, preserving, and showcasing the history of Enfield, Connecticut. Enfield is notable for the Thompsonville Carpet industry, the Hazardville gunpowder industry, and the Enfield Shaker Community. The society owns and operates three museums, all of which are open to the public free of charge. The Old Town Hall Museum was built as a church in 1774, and today functions both as a museum and as the headquarters of the society. The Martha A. Parsons House Museum houses over two centuries of Parsons family possessions, and gives visitors a window into the past of Enfield. Finally, the Wallop School Museum was built in 1800 and remained in service as a school house until 1949. Now, visitors can explore education throughout the history of Enfield. In addition to the museums, the society offers educational and research services to the public.

Herkimer County Historical Society [NY]

Description

The Herkimer County Historical Society is dedicated to preserving the history of Herkimer, New York, and to that end owns and maintains four museums in Herkimer. The museums are collectively known as the "Historic Four Corners," and are the 1884 Herkimer County Historical Society Suiter Building Museum, the 1834 Herkimer County Jail, 1873 Herkimer County Courthouse, and the 1834 Herkimer Reformed Church, which are all listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Riordan Mansion State Historic Park [AZ]

Description

The Riordan Mansion was built in 1904 for two Riordan families. The mansion is a remarkable example of the Arts and Crafts style of architecture. The house features a rustic exterior of log-slab siding, volcanic stone arches, and hand split wooden shingles. The house has 40 rooms, over 13,000 square feet of living area, and a servant's quarters. The Riordan Mansion was designed by the creator of the Grand Canyon's El Tovar Hotel, Charles Whittlesey. Guided tours of the mansion are offered daily.

Richard Nixon Library & Birthplace Foundation [CA]

Description

The Richard Nixon Library and Birthplace Foundation serves three main functions. First, the Foundation aids in the operation of the presidential library for Richard Nixon. As such, the library offers an enormous amount of documents and information about the Nixon presidency, including all primary sources relevant to the administration. For research access and information, visit http://www.nixonlibrary.gov/, the official website of the Nixon Library. Secondly, the site serves as a historic house museum, and gives visitors a view of Richard Nixon aside from his presidency. Finally, the Foundation helps to raise interest and scholarship in the Nixon presidency by hosting events at the Nixon Library throughout the year.

Old Saybrook Historical Society [CT]

Founded in 1958, Old Saybrook Historical Society is a non-profit organization dedicated to investigating, preserving, and maintaining collections in the archaeology, art, furniture, genealogy, and historical records of the town of Old Saybrook. In addition, the society works to encourage the preservation of historic sites and the appreciation of the history of Old Saybrook. The society seeks to increase the appreciation of the history of Old Saybrook through exhibits, videos, tours, and lectures.

Fenton Historical Society [MI]

Description

The Fenton Historical Society is one of the oldest historical societies in the United States. Founded in 1936, the society has worked since then to promote and showcase the history of Fenton through a variety of ways. The society maintains the Fenton Historical Museum, as well as an extensive library that chronicles the local history. In addition, the society is the main genealogical research center in Fenton.

The site offers library access, information for researchers, a fairly extensive history of the the founding of Fenton and early Fenton, a photo gallery with seven photographs of historical people and structures in Fenton, and archives of the newsletter put out by the society. As of Jan 23, 2009, only four newsletter are up online, but the society is working on adding the rest of the newsletters.
