The Texas Highway Patrol Museum chronicles the lives of Department of Public Safety officers past and present, while honoring the 74 troopers who have been slain while in the service of the people of Texas. Collections include vintage uniforms, Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow photographs, and officer memorabilia.

The Buffalo Gap Historic Village preserves and presents the history and heritage of the last 50 years of the Texas frontier (18751925). The living history village contains at least 12 original building; a museum; collections of arrowheads, frontier weapons, and medical instruments; and two Model T hacks.

The Sam Rayburn House Museum consists of a 12-room house, built in 1916 as the residence of politician Sam Rayburn's parents, brother, and sister. At the time, Rayburn (1882-1961) was in his second of 24 terms in the U.S. House of Representatives; and he visited the house and surrounding farm frequently. The house and its contents reflect their appearance in 1961, the time of Rayburn's death.

The UDC Confederate Memorial Museum houses historic items from throughout Colorado County, including ladies' mourning jewelry, rare china, military uniforms, and a three-barrel shotgun. The collection is located within Columbus, Texas' historic water tower, built 1883. The structure has also served as a fire house.

The Mansfield Historical Society collects, preserves, and shares genealogical, biographical, and historical data about the Mansfield, Texas community and its residents. The society operates a museum, housed in a 1899 building previously used as a doctor's office and by the Knights of Pythias.

Samuel Bell Maxey and his wife, Marilda, moved into their fashionable new home on the south side of Paris, TX, in 1868. Built in the High Victorian Italianate style, the frame house, plus book house and stable, were a progressive addition to the city's architecture and a proper home for the ex-Confederate general and later United States Senator. Maxey moved to Paris with his family in 1857. Construction of the house began in 1867 and it was remodeled in 1911. Members of the Maxey family lived in the house until 1966. The house has been restored and furnished to reflect almost 100 years of continuous use by the Maxey family.

Governor Hogg bought this property in 1902. While he had initially thought of it as an investment, Hogg soon came to think fondly of the plantation as a second home for his scattered family. Hogg was convinced that the property contained oil in quantities equal to Spindletop, and he drilled several wells trying to find it. He died, however, in 1906, 14 years before his beliefs were vindicated. The West Columbia field was brought in during 1920 and proved very productive, becoming the cornerstone of the Hogg family wealth. Until 1958, the Hogg family leased the surface rights for farming and raising livestock, but usually kept the house and immediate outbuildings for weekend and vacation use. In 1958, Miss Ima Hogg, well-known Texas collector and philanthropist, refurbished and refurnished the house and kitchen building and donated the property to the state to commemorate her father and other Texas and American heroes.

The Dallas Firefighters Museum, housed within a 1907 station, presents firefighting history via a collection of firefighting apparatus and memorabilia. Collection highlights include "Old Tige," an 1884 horse-drawn steam pumper, and a 1951 fire engine which visitors are welcome to climb aboard.
