Causes of the American Revolution

Teapot with Slogan, "Stamp Act Repeal'd" (1766)

Annotation

This object, made in Britain, is illustrative of the large numbers of consumer goods colonists purchased from England during the middle decades of the 18th century. It also shows how a consumer good could be politicized through the application of a political message. Ordinary people would have bought and used goods such as these, bringing the message of resistance right into their homes.
